Energetic and Oxidising Substances (EOS)

• History. Formed in 1990 upon a merger of the 'Organic Peroxides' (OP) and 'Nitrocellulose and other Hazardous Substances' (NC) working groups.
• Remit. Test methods, classification and safety aspects related to organic peroxides, self-reactive substances and other energetic substances, fertilisers, ammonium nitrate and oxidisers. Process hazards, particularly in relation to manufacture of energetic substances. Incidents involving energetic substances.
• Officers. Chairman: Wim Mak (TNO, The Netherlands); co-chairman: Marcus Malow (BAM, Germany).

Current ad-hoc working groups

• Testing of solid oxidisers. Chair: Mr. J. Clemens (Bayer, Germany).
• Classification of energetic substances. Chair: Dr. J. Horn (Consilab, Germany).
• Classification of AN based fertilizers. Chair: Dr. L. van Dam (MSB, Sweden).
• SADT/SAPT. Chair: Dr. M. Gödde (BASF, Germany).
• Burning rate test for organic peroxides. Chair: vacancy.
• Emergency relief venting of organic peroxides and reactive substances. Chair: vacancy.
